Actually his name is Ted. But shortly after he had moved to the Chilcotin, to work as a hunting guide, he was nicknamed "Chilco".
Chilco was not only a hunter but as well a conservationist, who restlessly fought to protect the flora and fauna of the Chilcotin. He was well known for his skirmishes with the owners of the Gang Ranch, who, in his opinion, were exploiting the natural resources. He wrote about the story in his book "Unfriendly Neighbors".
